Second Verse, Same as the First: For the Week of April 26-30
Tuesday: 9-4:00
Wednesday: 9:00-12:30, 3:30-5:00
Thursday: 9-5:00
Friday: 9-5:00
Worked on the same old thing now...baseball and gymnastics review.
Everyting seems in slow motion right now but the owrk for school has picked up. It was almost perfect timing to have all the school work come at me after I got back from the 2010 NCAA Championships.
Bedlam baseball is coming up soon. We will be working on credintials for the series because there is a lot of media that comes to that series.
People around the office are gone a lot more this time of year becuase there is really nothing to do. Luckly this year, unlike last year, we are not hosting baseball and softball NCAA tournaments this year. That is nice becaause they can be hectic.
Spring football has started as well. That is a fun time of year because it just reminds us of what is around the corner.
Well get back to work next week...I promise.
After the Championship Run: For the Week of April 19-23
Tuesday: 9-4:00
Wednesday: 9:00-12:30, 3:30-5:00
Thursday: 9-3:00
Friday: 9-3:30
Well after the hectic trip to West Point the season is over...for the gymnasts.
While they are getting ready for the summer, I must work on postseason releases and statistics. Although I must say that even though things are still moving around in the office, it is still not as fast as the regular season.
I have had some time to reflect on my time this year with the men's gymnastics team and I realized that I can't complain about my time with the team this year. I saw many thing over the season and it was a wierd trip.
Yes, gymnasts are the whinnest group of athletes at the University of Oklahoma but they are good at what they do. I think there is also a little bit of the angry short man syndrome associated with all of them but they can win championships.
All of my time now will be directed to helping with baseball, finishing gymnastics stuff and graduating. YES!!!
Thank God the season is over...See ya later 2010 season.

Post for the week of April 11-17. National Championship
2010 Men's Gymnastics NCAA National Championships
Tuesday: (All-Day)
Wednesday: (All-Day)
Thursday: (All-Day)
Friday: (All-Day)
Saturday: (All-Day)
Sunday: (All-Day)
This is the week that everyone was waiting for all season. This is what the team was working for and now it is finally here.
The week started with last mintue preparations on Monday...mostly packing.
Last year, I overpacked but I will not make that mistake again.
On Tuesday, had the earliest wake-up call ever when we decided to leave OKC at 7:00. that means we all had to meet at the gym at 4:45. It was bad.
The flight was good and coming into Newark, N.J. we could see downtown NYC. It was awesome.
The first day of competition was Thursday and the days leading up to that was just perparation with the website. I was bloging about the whole experience on SoonerSports.com. It was difficult at first but I think I got the hang of it after a while. Next year, it will be better. I noticed I wasn't rushing everything like last year. I could stop and enjoy the moment for a second but only for a second because if you take too long someone is there to kick you in the head and say NO.
The championship was at the United State Military Academy at West Point and that was really cool. We got some time to go around and see all the cool stuff there.
We came in third in the team competition but claimed two Individual National titles on the third night and evryone seemed happy about that.
The local media back home picked up evrything well but it some of the small stuff was not the way I would have liked it. (You live and you learn, I guess)
Next year I will be better.

Preparing for Championships: Blog for the week of April 5-9
Tuesday: 9-5
Wednesday: 9:00-11:30, 3:30-5:00
Thursday: 9-5
Friday: 9-5
This was a busy week. This is the one time of year that I don't like but excited for the next week.
I started preparing for the NCAA National Championships this week and it requires a lot of preparation before we leave.
The main preparation is making a post-season guide with all the updated statistics and results. It is a lot of work in a sort time period.
I also have to send in a lot of roster information to be place in the program.
After finishing everything I send it to the host site which this year is the United States Military Academy in West Point.
It will be an awesome trip and I am looking forward to it. The only downfall is the length of time on the trip. It will be for a whole week and we leave at 4:45 in the morning. That is bad.
I guess it was the only flight that we could find direct to Newark, N.J.
Next week, I will blog about the experience at West Point.

MPSF Championship
Tuesday: 9-5
Wednesday: 9:00-12:00, 3:30-5:00
Thursday: 9-5
Friday: 9-5
Saturday: 4:00 p.m.-11:00 p.m.
Well the big week is here and it is not fun. This is the first time in my career at OU that I have not had fun. With everything that went on this week I was very glad that anything didn't fall through the cracks.
This is also a big week for the Communications and Marketing offices, because this is our chance to host a big gymnastics event and try a get a lot of people there.
The week of the event I created a autograph sheets for Bart Conner adn Jonathan Horton to sign. This was big having them here because they are Olympic medal winners and the faces of USA gymnastics right now.
I was also put in charge of making flyers for the event to pass our the Norman community and the campus. This was a pain in the neck. I am not supposed to be doing this but I did anyway, which made my life a more living hell.
Not only was I making these but also organizing five teams in the score system and making release and notes. Cordinating media was also a big concern for the event. We got two tv spots and multiple newspaper hits.
It was a very busy week!!
The other side is that WE WON!! This is our 10th MPSF conference championship in 12th years
and our 18th overall.
HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!!!
See you next week for the preparation for the National Championship.

Preparing for Men's Gymnastics Conference Championship
Monday-9:30-12:00
Tuesday: 9-5
Wednesday: 9:00-12:00, 3:30-5:00
Thursday: 9-5
Friday: 9-5
This was hell week. I don't remember a busy week like this.
I am preparing for the MPSF Men's Gymnastics Conference Championships on Saturday, April 3 at 7 pm.
It is going to be our last home meet of the year and it will be a big one. Stanford, Cal, Air Force and Nebraska will be there. We will have to have our best stuff to beat most of these teams.
If you look at our scores from the past meets, I think that we have the scores to do it. If we are all hitting, than no one can stop us.
I have been given some extra stuff this week to work on that are not in my job discription and I will have to address this at the end of this year to the gymnastics staff. Such as: extra flyers about the meet, autograph sheets for Jon Horton and Bart Conner, they tried to have me make a poster but that is a NCAA violation and I wouldnot do it, ect.
Next week will be hell week part II but it should be ok. I have worked ahead a little bit and got some notes updated.
I can't believe the season is almost over. It will be so nice not having to mess with this for the rest of the season.
I will see you next week...maybe, if I am not dead.

Penn State and other Stuff
Tuesday: 9-4:00
Wednesday: 9:00-5:00
Thursday: All Day (Ford Center)
Friday: DAY OFF
Saturday: 3-10:30 (Ford Center)
Sunday 5:00-10:30 (LNC Women's Tournament)
Spring Break....Yeah Right!!
To every person that went on vaction this spring break, I hate you.
This was the most hectic week I have hadin a long time. We are hosting the Women's NCAA Tournament and some of us worked the Men's NCAA Tournament at the Ford Center as well. What made it hectic was that almost everyone that works in our office left for spring break. So,everyone left had to do all the work.
Not only that, I had to prepare for the meet gymnastics meet against Penn State.
We had to make credentitals for everone attending, name cards for people to sit and make flipcards with all the roster information on it.
It is quite the undertaking for anyone trying to host the event. Especially for spring break week. It was also toubling to see that our own communications office had some communication breakdowns as well with scheduling.
With all of that, I and some others went to the Ford Center to work men;s basketball games for the NCAA. They were great becuase we saw the nine seed Northern Iowa beat the number one overll seed Kansas. It was really funny seeing all those Kansas fans upset.
Oh, I also stayed behind to helpout with everything here and opted not the go to Penn State for the meet.
This is not the first time that I didn't go on a trip for men's gymnastics. I did not go to Nebraska as well.
I am still working tonight. The OU women are playing San Diego State tonight in the first round of the tournament.
And...men's gymnastics won...again. We are good.
Next week we have a off date but I will blog about preparations for the MPSF conference championships.
Post for the week of March 15-20: Ohio State
Tuesday: 9-4:00
Wednesday: 10:00-12:00, 3:30-5:00
Thursday: 9-3:00
Friday: All Day (On the Road)
Saturday All Day (On the Road)
Sunday All Day (On the Road)
On the Road...Just can't wait to get on the road again.
This week we arein Columbus, Ohio to go against sixth-ranked Ohio State and this was good trip.
I was kind of excited for this trip becuase it is not every day that you get to Ohio State and see Buckeye country.
The week leading up to the meet was a little bit lgither than usual becuase all I have to do is notes (To remind everyone, notes are a small packet that SIDs and media use for quick facts about the team or game).
So, after finishing my notes I worked on other small stuff that needs to be updated throughout the year on SoonerSports.com (career highs on the bio pages, stats and media note links).
We left on Friday afternoon, which was wierd becuase we usually leave in the morning. So I got to do some things around the house and getting ready.
It was a rough ride to Chicago and then to Columbus because of some thunderstorms in the area. I have been on some flight with turbulance but not lightning.
Ohio State was awesome. The meet was in the afternoon, which made it easier to get the story out in time. The weather was nice, too. When we got back it was colder than when we left and colder than Ohio State.
Overall, it was a good trip and the Ohio State was very helpful with the results and anything I needed to do my job.
And of course....we won.
NEXT, Penn State.

Going to Lincoln...Not really.
Tuesday: 9-4:00
Wednesday: 9:00-12:30, 3:30-5:00
Thursday: 9-3:00
Friday: 9-3:30
Saturday 10:00-2:00
Hello Everybody...like anyone is listening.
Well, this week was a easier one than the rest of the season. For some reason away meets are easier.
Whether it be just not much to prepare for...I think that is it...or it is knowing that you dont have to deal with all the people.
Eventhough I love the university and this was one of the least challenging weeks of the season, this was the most stressfull two weeks with the administration and coaches I have ever had to experience.
I have never heard more gripping and whinning for coaches and administration than this week. It was absolutily disgusting and unattractive to the university.
I don't know whether it is just this university athletics program or the type of people but it made me not want to work here.
Well........the team did good. Doing notes for this team was easy, it is always easy. This team is great and I can only hope to work with them some more.
I will not be traveling wih the team to Penn State but I will be going to Buckeye town (Ohio State). The team lost today to Stanford but we all knew it was goingto happen. Right know they are better than we are but we will keep working hard and will see what happens at the National Championship.
Thanks to all....se you next week.
Post for Last Week: Hosting Minnesota
Tuesday: 9-5:00
Wednesday: 9:00-12:30, 3:30-5:00
Thursday: 9-5
Friday: 9-4:30
Saturday 10:00-5:00
Last week was very busy....Hmmmm...just like every week, I guess.
Eventhough it was a tough week was class and everything, it was still a great learning experience. This week was the week that we could all prepare for the upcoming MPSF conference championships.
We were able to do this becuase both sixth-ranked Minnesota dn the Texas club team came to the meet.
I was able to order more scoring pads that way we could have one at each event. This was great because we did not have to move this around.
We all did the rotation schedule like it would be at the conference championship.
Everything went as planned and it went smoothly. The one thing I realized is that if the coches don't come over everything is ok.
Next week we are on the road at Nebraska and Stanford is coming...it should be a epic meet.

"Cool" Trip to Michigan
Monday-9-12:00
Tuesday: 9-5:00
Wednesday: 9:00-12:30, 3:30-5:00
Thursday: 9-5
Friday: On the Road (All Day)
Saturday On the Road (All Day)
Well....Last week, I ended the post saying, "Next week I am on the road to Michigan. Fun....Maybe?"
It was fun!
To see all those Michigan fans sad after we won was, I will admit, mildly funny.
We competed well in a hostle environment and put up a score that could push us to number one. OU Head Coach Mark Williams was very happy to leave with a win.
This is actually one of the easier jobs that I have. Going on the road is fun because all I have to do is sit back watch the meet and do the release. In some case is can write out most of the release ahead of time and plug in a lot of details later. It also helped that the meet was at 2 p.m. and not a night. This helps out with the papers.
This week is Minnesota and Texas. It will be fun to have all the kids from Cleveland Elementary in Norman for "Cleveland Elementary Night."
This is our biggest meet of the year and the most fun. The kids do most of the work, except my job. I wonder how I could get a kid do my job?? Will have to think about that this week.
Talk to you next week.

What a Long Week
Tuesday: 9-5:00
Wednesday: 9:00-12:30, 3:30-5:00
Thursday: 9-5
Friday: 9-5
Saturday 1:30-10:30
What a week...with all the home events in town this was not going to be pretty.
We had several basketball games at night during the week and Satuday was the day from hell.
I am going to just going to talk about Saturday since the rest of the week was just the normal notes, program and setting up.
Saturday started off by have to update the gymnastics line ups at 9:00 a.m. in the morning. The men's gymnastics SID sent me a chaged line up and lets say I was not happy.
I had to work the most boring women's basketball game in the history of the sport but it was what I needed. We were playing Colorado and killed them.
After that I went straight over to McCasland Field House for five more hourse of gymnastics fun. We were competing against Nebraska and it was not a contest. We beat them by 21 points and in the gymnastics world that is a lot. The most important thing is that everything went soomthly and nothing went wrong at our first home meet.
Everyone was happy...so I'm happy.
Next week I am on the road to Michigan. Fun....Maybe?
Michigan could give us a run for our money.

Home with Nebraska
Tuesday: 9-4:30
Wednesday: 9:00-12:30, 3:30-5:00
Thursday: 9-5
Friday: 9-5
Saturday 3:00-5:30
This week was not that busy but it was a important one.
The gymnastics Winter Cup Challenge is this week and the U.S. Senior National Team is put together based off the scores from this meet.
Five current and former Oklahoma gymnasts were sent to the Winter Cup and all five made it. This means that five of the 15 members of the Senior National team will be Oklahoma guys. This is amazing because no other program has done this in history.
I also like this week becuase it gives me a chance to catch up and work ahead on notes and other paper work. I'm already done with most of what is needed for the meet. It is great.
Saturday was also a big day for basketball. We were playing Texas and it was Wayman Tisdale night. Half time show consisted of Toby Kieth playing his song tribute and we won the game. Great atmosphere!
Next week is Nebraska at home for gymnastics. Should be a good meet. It is at home so everybody come. I will start preparing for Michigan. That is a big meet at there place.

Getting Ready for Texas--Ice and Snow
Tuesday: 9-4:30
Wednesday: 9:00-12:30, 3:30-5:00
Thursday: 9-5
Friday: 9-5
This week was a very busy week getting ready for Texas. There is much to do for a home meet and little time to prepare for it. A times it did not seem that I would get done in time but I made it all work out.
I usually don't start at 9 a.m. in the morning on Mondays and Wednesdays but this week I needed all the time I could get.
I first started making the most esential parts of my job which are the flipcards and the notes. The flipcard did not take that long becuase I went off an older football template. A flipcard is filled with the basic informationa fan needs to know about the event. Then I work on the notes and those are more for my info and the media that shows up.
After Wednesday, I got word that there would be a storm coming but kept working like it was going to be nothing.
Things were going smoothly after Thursday even thought there was a inch of ice on the ground and snow fallling. Got everything working at the fieldhouse with scoring equipment and video board. I appriciate the help from Branndon Meire of Sooner Vision and David Payne of OU IT for helping with everything.
Friday rolls around and everything is going smooth until I get a call from Mark say that Joe C. cancelled everything that day and to write a release. So, I wrote a release about everything being cancelled and relaxed.
I am almost glad for the storm because I was able to relax for the first time in a while.
It was nice.
Next time I will write about Winter Cup. Big deal in the gymnastics world.

Getting Ready for Iowa
Tuesday: 9-4:30
Wednesday: 10:30-12:30, 3:30-5:00
Thursday: 9-5
Friday: 9-5
This week was used to get prepared for a meet against the University of Iowa with updating notes, Soonersports.com and distributing the media guides to other universities and news organizations.
Last week, the gymnastics team and I traveled to the Rocky Mountain Open to take on Air Force, Nebraska and various club teams. The team won and it was a great way to start off the season. It was difficult to get the press release out after the meet because the facility we were in did not have a wireless connection and the wireless card that I received didn’t work. I had to rush back to the hotel to get it up on Soonerposrts.com and out to the media as fast as I could. Needless to say, it was a hectic night.
This week was a busy one with Monday being Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. I had to do the entire web updating Tuesday morning before starting my notes for the meet. Each week after a meet I have to pos the scores for our gymnasts on a website called Troester and that ranks the individual gymnasts and teams for the NCAA to use. After doing all of the updating, I began preparing my notes for the upcoming meet with Iowa. In my notes is all of the information that I or any other media person could need for writing about the meet. Past records, results, opponent preview and quick little facts that could help a fellow media relations person know about your team. I also received my media guides this week from the printer. I had to distribute these guides to all of our opponents and local media. Before leaving, I also had to post a meet preview on Soonersports.com. It can hopefully provide a Oklahoma fan the information on the meet or make gymnastics fans out of them.
After doing all of this I was ready for the trip. Today we are traveling on an executive sleeper bus to Iowa and it has satellite TV, sleeper beds, tables and it is very comfortable. It is kind of cool being able to travel with the team again this year. The ride is rough though because he is on his phone – hope he doesn’t kill us.
Next week, we will battle TEXAS.
I will write about the Iowa meet and preparations for the Texas on the next blog.
